In the 1800s, homes in Virginia were primarily built using locally sourced materials such as brick, wood, and stone. The architecture was heavily influenced by the Georgian and Federal styles, characterized by symmetrical designs, balanced proportions, and classical details such as columns and pediments. These homes often featured spacious front porches, tall windows with shutters, and steeply pitched roofs. Inside, rooms were typically arranged in a formal manner, with a central hallway flanked by reception rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms.
